Our honey, straight from our local beekeeper's hives, is now available with a fresh new look! This delicious honey is produced in the beautiful lower plains and foothills of Northern California and is of superior quality that only nature can provide.
Our honey is pure and natural. We gently warm the honey, (maximum of 110 degrees), to allow us to screen filter it for any unwanted particles, (who wants leaf particles or bee wings in their honey-yuck!), and to able us to bottle it.
At Maisie Jane's, we are committed to bee-friendly farming practices. We leave part of our orchards’ almond rows with natural grasses instead of chopping all the vegetation. This attracts beneficial insects, reduces the need for harmful insecticides, and helps maintain a healthy bee population by leaving the blooms in place.
We have also planted a special flower mixture in our orchards to provide additional food for honeybees, boosting the native bee population. Alongside a creek that borders our organic almond orchard, we have planted native bushes and plants to create a safe forage area for bees and a balanced ecosystem for other beneficial insects.
Our commitment extends to using local bee hives for almond pollination, reducing the carbon footprint and ensuring the health and vitality of the hives. Unlike hives transported across the country, our local hives face less stress and are less susceptible to disease. We also employ Integrated Pest Management (IPM) and use natural fertilizers, minimizing harm to bees. Spraying is done during early mornings or nights when bees are safely in their hives.
We have partnered with the Xerces Society for Invertebrate Conservation and the Harry H. Laidlaw Jr. Honeybee Research Facility at UC Davis. These organizations provide cutting-edge research on bee health and genetics, monitoring our bee-friendly farming practices and sharing the benefits with other almond farmers. This collaboration ensures we continue to improve our practices and support a healthier ecosystem.
